Irie Beats - Bio
| It's January,
Nineteen Ninety-Six in East L.A. Tom Ochoa (bass), Robert Sotelo
(guitar), and Henry Vega (drums) start a band called Irie Beats.
Soon after, Henry leaves and they recruit members noe Santana (guitar),
John Solis (drums). Later that year in September, Malik (vocals/organ)
and Mark Rodriguez (percussion) join to form the current line-up of Irie
Beats.
The Irie Beats' sound is a distinctive form of reggae (the early 60's style) with hints of dub and rocksteady -- a straight up solid, rhythmic, joy ride full of ear candy. The soulful delivery of Malik's voice and the way the harmonious guitars dance in and out of each other's melody will move you. The Irie Beats have released a 7 song EP on the Steady Beat Recordings label. They have played at many venues in the L.A. area including Luna Park in West Hollywood, The Whisky-A-Go-Go, The Roxy Theatre, The Muse, Beachfest in Long Beach, The Standard Cocodrie in San Francisco, and Ports 'O Call. The love Irie Beats shares for music insures that this reggae affair will continue on for many years to come. |
